Climbing the real truth out on the rocks
You know your going to fall your arm is shaking as you fumble to try and clip the rope in. The fear sets in and you arms starting to burn, you can't hold on any longer! You feel yourself helplessly losing it. As your grip fades you make one last attempt for the clip!

What motivates us climb?
Topping out on a route that is higher than your current grade can't be beaten but for most people its exercise, adrenalin and personal satifaction.
Whether it be an on sight or redpoint for most its is probably one of the most satifying feelings they experince!

Where is modern day climbing heading
Well to be truthful climbing is probably one of the most regulated and hardest sports to access as a young person. Especially as a young person indoor climbing.
Because of this less young people climb! This of course means people like Jim who aren't really that good actually stand a chance at getting a good UK rating! (only joking Jim) however all Jokes apart the sport is strongly over regulated by paper works signiture.
If a person doesn't want to climb they won't which means if you get on a climbing route you want to be there and except responsibilty for what happens on that route. Accidents do happen but they are accidents! These are unfortunate as this means in the outset we suffer as young climbers because it means we can no longer climb without futher regulations. For example parental consent! Also an under 16 belay test is more intense than an adult test yet most under 16 belayers in my experinece are better and safer belayers particulary on indoor walls.

All the best keep climbing! Si
